For years, I’ve had this goal of publishing more on my personal website.
“I need to write more...” I’d tell myself.
And you know what? I did. A lot.
Over time, I’ve worked on refining my writing practice. It’s taken many forms—everything from “how am I feeling” journal entries, to micro-logging, to taking notes from YouTube videos.
These days, my morning routine involves filling up at least one 3x5 index card with my thoughts and feelings, which turn into practical principles—applicable advice I’d give myself and others about certain topics.
From this (literal) stack of written work, not a single post has seen the light of day. Then yesterday, the inspiration struck—the first publish. That’s when it hit me…
“I need to share more…”
Which is ironic, because sharing work is something I constantly encourage my team to do. It’s something I do all the time at work.
But for my own stuff? I’ve been holding back.
Heard. I need to share more. (It feels so obvious now.)
And that’s exactly what I’ll do. If you're listening or watching, you’ll see me practice overcoming the "shyness" of sharing and just hitting that publish button.
Notes from today’s card:
- The practice of writing is one thing. The practice of sharing is another. You need to do both if you want your ideas to impact others.
- Far too often, far too many of us, focus on the act of writing — as if it were the only thing we need to do — need to overcome. The result is that some become prolific writers with the intent of publishing, but never do.
- Don’t let how you sound prevent you from singing, if you want to. Someone out there may want to listen.
